What can I say? Seth Rogen! Seth is such a panic. “Pineapple Express” does not disappoint. Although the whole movie seems to be centered around weed smokin’ and dealin’, it is really about relationships.
Seth plays a process server and pot-head named Dale Denton who is witness a murder. The murderer turns out to be a drug supplier to Dale’s friend and dealer, named Saul, played by James Franco. Saul happens to be the only dealer in town who has a certain kind of weed called “Pineapple Express”. When Dale drops a “roach” of pineapple express at the murder scene, it is easy for the supplier to track him down because of the rarity of that roach.

Anybody out there like “Minnie Driver”? Well, I certainly like her. She is an accomplished actress, as well as being easy on the eyes. Anyway… She is in the movie that I watched called “Take”. Driver plays a struggling mom, Ana, coping with her son which requires special attention. The film also stars Jeremy Renner, who plays a down on his luck gambler named Saul.
Saul owes a great deal of money to pay a gambling debt. He is approached by a thug who gives him an ultimatum, pay the money or “else”. Saul tries a couple creative ways of gaining the money. First he tries to steal from his employer. When his employer catches him in the act, Saul gets fired. Of course that makes the situation worse. When he has a failed attempt at becoming a repo man, he finds himself at the end of his rope. Left threatened and broke he decides to rob a drugstore to repay his debt.

I forgot about his one. It was in theaters awhile ago and it just slipped my mind. It’s called “Bangkok Dangerous”, starring Nicholas Cage. If the name sounds familiar… It is because the original was released in 1999 with the same name. Nick Cage plays a hitman named Joe who employs a pick-pocket named “Kong”, played by Shahkrit Yamnarm. Kong is hired to do pick-ups and deliveries for Joe. When Kong discovers what Joe does for a living he wants Joe to teach him his trade. Normally, Joe would have killed someone like Kong. However, he sensed some kind of kinship and decided to take Kong under his wing.

He’s put together a nice list of some really good DVD offerings that came around in 2008 but didn’t get the amount of attention they deserved. All right! Here we go… De Niro and Pacino. A winning combination, right? I thought so… And I was RIGHT! Along with these two guys was a GREAT supporting cast, including Brian Dennehy, Donnie Wahlberg, John Leguizamo, Carla Gugino, and even 50 Cent. They all played very good roles. De Niro and Pacino were absolutely outstanding. You had to know that a movie featuring two of the finest actors of the modern era had to have some very special moments, and I am happy to say that this movie certainly didn’t disappoint in any way.
“Andy Richter Controls the Universe” coming to DVD
Great news for Andy Richter fans! Paramount has just announced that the complete series of “Andy Richter Controls the Universe” will be coming to DVD in March of 2009.
Andy spent seven years writing and co-starring on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” where he was Conan’s foil and sidekick. In 2002 he got his chance with his own series, called “Andy Richter Controls the Universe” on the Fox Network. Many people felt, critics included, that Andy’s show was one of the funniest on TV. The show built up a very loyal following and fan base, but the following wasn’t enough to keep the program on the air for more than two seasons. Only 19 episodes were made.

Alright! Two things that I like… Burt Reynolds and scantily clad women! I found both of these in the movie called “Cloud 9″. Such a wonderful concept. You see, Burt plays Billy Cole, an older beach dwelling, gambling, under-achiever. He was left in the care of his friend’s son, Tenspot, played by D.L. Hughley. When Billy comes up with an idea to turn a group local strippers into a beach volleyball team, they prove that sex sells.

Here we go. I am sure to make a few enemies with this one. “Babylon A.D.” was just released, so I decided to rent it. Vin Diesel is usually quite entertaining. In this movie, however, I was let down.
When I saw the previews for the movie before the theatrical release, I thought that I would enjoy it. Now, I don’t watch an action flick like this with the expectation of perfect plot lines, or perfectly accurate geographical and chronological evidences. I watch with the anticipation of a strong plot and a lot of action where the lead roll gets to save the day, so to speak. Unfortunately, this one left me a little flat.

When you are browsing the movies available to rent, and you come across one with several A-ish list actors, you must rent it. That is the case when I ran across the DVD entitled “Timeline”. It has several well known actors like Gerard Butler, Paul Walker and Billy Connolly. Also, they have other great actors, such as Frances O’Connor, and Anna Friel supporting them. “Timeline” has some cool special features including some “making of” footage. It has a good commentary and some really neat settings, so be sure to check out the special features section.

Okay. So, I rented “Horton Hears a Who!” last night. I have to say that I was expecting something less than spectacular. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The cast of voices used to make this film really came together nicely. I thought perhaps Jim Carrey as Horton would upstage the rest of the cast. Instead, Steve Carell and Carol Burnett were equally impressive. Also… Will Arnett, and one of my favorites, Seth Rogen added their voices and personalities to help bring another Dr. Seuss world into three dimensions. Of course the story was added to. If they stuck exactly to the book, I guess that the movie would’ve been about fifteen minutes long.
