Okay. So, I rented “Horton Hears a Who!” last night. I have to say that I was expecting something less than spectacular. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The cast of voices used to make this film really came together nicely. I thought perhaps Jim Carrey as Horton would upstage the rest of the cast. Instead, Steve Carell and Carol Burnett were equally impressive. Also… Will Arnett, and one of my favorites, Seth Rogen added their voices and personalities to help bring another Dr. Seuss world into three dimensions. Of course the story was added to. If they stuck exactly to the book, I guess that the movie would’ve been about fifteen minutes long.

The animation was very good, and you should expect that from Twentieth Century Fox. I was, however, disappointed with the special features on the DVD. The only selections available were the commentary and some trailers. When I watch an animated flick, it is a big kick for me to watch the voice actors record the sound track. It is especially cool to me when they do a “split screen” effect so that the movie watcher can see the actor speaking the character’s lines on one side and see the character voicing the lines on the opposite side. Unfortunately, this DVD did not offer that option.
Now, they did add a new “Ice Age” short called “Surviving Sid”. I did enjoy that. I am sure if you are an Ice Age fan like myself, you would appreciate that short film as well as the sneak peek at “Ice Age 3″. Overall I enjoyed “Horton” and it is worth a rent… Especially if you dig Dr. Seuss.
