What can I say? Seth Rogen! Seth is such a panic. “Pineapple Express” does not disappoint. Although the whole movie seems to be centered around weed smokin’ and dealin’, it is really about relationships.

Seth plays a process server and pot-head named Dale Denton who is witness a murder. The murderer turns out to be a drug supplier to Dale’s friend and dealer, named Saul, played by James Franco. Saul happens to be the only dealer in town who has a certain kind of weed called “Pineapple Express”. When Dale drops a “roach” of pineapple express at the murder scene, it is easy for the supplier to track him down because of the rarity of that roach.

Watch the “Pineapple Express” trailer:

Also involved in the murder is the supplier’s girlfriend, who happens to be a police officer. The supplier, Ted, (Gary Cole) and his girlfriend, Carol, (Rosie Perez) along with Ted’s hired thugs try to catch up with Dale and Saul who are now a team on the run trying to stay alive and protect the lives of their loved ones. The haphazard team enlists the help of Saul’s middleman, Red (Danny McBride) to help them evade Ted. With all this happening in Dale’s life, he is also dealing with a rough relationship involving his girlfriend Andie, (Amber Heard) who is now also in hiding with her family.

After a disagreement Dale and Saul split. Saul goes to see his grandmother, but Ted’s thugs are already there and easily subdue Saul and take him back to their drug hideout. Dale finds out that Saul has been taken, so he goes back to Red’s home to get his help in saving Saul. When he gets there he finds Red slowly bleeding to death, but convinces him to help rescue Saul. Red and Dale arrive at the hideout ready for action, but Red decides that he is not so ready and bails on Dale. So on his own Dale goes in and tries to rescue his friend. In doing so he is captured and gets part of his ear shot off. While this is taking place, one of Ted’s rivals plots a scheme to blow up Ted’s hideout. After a change of heart Red shows up on the scene just in time. With bullets flying and a bomb planted and ready to explode Dale, Saul and even Red, being shot several more times, manage to make it out beaten and bruised, but alive.

Pineapple Express is a fun movie that combines a lot of action and a lot of comedy. Both of which are almost non-stop. A terrific cast, well written script, and great performances make a winning combination for this film. It is a crazy, laugh-a-minute follow up to another great film by Rogen, “Superbad”. You don’t have to be into “weed” to enjoy this flick. If you want to laugh then this is a movie for you, and one I’d say you should add to your collection.
