Here we go. I am sure to make a few enemies with this one. “Babylon A.D.” was just released, so I decided to rent it. Vin Diesel is usually quite entertaining. In this movie, however, I was let down.

When I saw the previews for the movie before the theatrical release, I thought that I would enjoy it. Now, I don’t watch an action flick like this with the expectation of perfect plot lines, or perfectly accurate geographical and chronological evidences. I watch with the anticipation of a strong plot and a lot of action where the lead roll gets to save the day, so to speak. Unfortunately, this one left me a little flat.

Watch the “Babylon A.D.” trailer:

You see, Vin plays a role as a mercenary hired to deliver a young girl, Aurora, from Russia to New York. It seems that she is “infected” with a condition that makes her invaluable to one of the leading religions of this futuristic world. While being accompanied by Sister Rebeka (Michelle Yeoh), who is Aurora’s guardian, some action begins as does their journey. A few weak plot twists and, in my opinion, a weak performance by Vin leaves me saying “Man… This movie could’ve been good.” Out of the lot, Yeoh played the best roll giving her character a sort of real-ness. She didn’t give an overpowering performance, just a believable one.

As you all know by now, I am a fan of the special features and this film left me hangin’ there too. With just a handful of trailers, I felt “shorted”.

If you like Vin you may want to rent it. However, I recommend watching “Pitch Black” again instead. Oh yeah! I almost forgot… Gerard Depardieu, what
were you thinkin’, man? What happened to Andre from “My Father the Hero”?

I’d skip it.
